Being a CPG/brand founder is akin to being a general contractor. You have to be (or quickly become) an expert in product development, design, manufacturing, ops, supply chain, logistics, fulfillment, inventory management, performance marketing, brand marketing, finance, cash flow management, accounting, HR, legal and customer support, to name a few. You’re the center of the wheel and all of these departments are spokes. Which skill set do you think is MOST important for a CPG/brand founder to have? I’ll go first: cash flow management and financial discipline This is one reason I love working with founders of consumer brands. They have to be really, really smart to be successful.
A founder's ability to navigate the financial ebb and flow is vital. Yet, I'd argue that a deep understanding of brand strategy is equally pivotal. It's the compass that guides all other functions towards cohesive growth and market presence.
This is a good comparison!
Absolutely! The most important skillsets IMO are to be a lifelong learner and getting the job done. Have been learning all of the above skills as a CPG founder for the past two years while wearing various hats building zylch.co
